Team Alex May 27, 2026 - Update!

For trainer Sarah:

This is just one technique that I've learned from a farrier. It might not work for all horses or riders, but it's what has worked for me so far. The main points are: desensitize to ropes/touch, only release pressure once the horse relaxes into it, and dont ask for too much at once. After this video I went and did the same process with just my hands and was able to successfully pick out his hind feet. Alex is very easy going and probably the easiest horse to teach new things as long as your patient with him. Ill continue working with his feet for a week or so, and if he keeps up this progress I'll call my farrier out. Farriers are important people and a necessary trade, so it is a top priority to keep both them and the horse safe.

Alex will be available for adoption at the Dakota Showdown Finale on August 23, 2026 in Lennox, South Dakota. Check out http://dakotashowdown.com for more info.
