Dove had an interesting day today. I had my 3rd "ride" on her today. I decided to throw my western saddle on her today and she felt indifferent compared to my english saddle. I can swing my leg over her, flex, and back her, but forward is not an option. I had Mom lead Dove while I was riding her and she did super. I gave her the cues, Mom just walked beside her. Unfortunately though, after Mom unhooked the lead rope, Dove would not go. I decided to step back, get my surcingle, and go back to the ground and work on it more.
Before I got off, I decided to experiment. I stood on her. No reaction at all. She just stood there relaxed while I was standing in the saddle. I was really happy about that! Even though today was a bit of a rough one. I am also taking into perspective that I have been gone for a few days too. I understand I may be moving too fast for her and stepping back, slowing down and breaking steps up more will help her. Dove is doing a good job with staying calm and not being anxious. I am super proud of this mare. We all have off days and we shouldn't let it ruin us. There's always tomorrow to try again.
