From trainer Jay Westerbur:
Week 9 with #dakotashowdownteamonyx
I was super bad about getting video this week, oops. I was just super focused on making sure I was focused on him.
The video is of us on Saturday picking up feet in the barn. I decided to leave him being “naughty” in to show how we move on and don’t get worked up over things. I don’t know what he was thinking in that moment. In the video it looks like he’s going to kick me, but he wasn’t, he shifted his whole hip weight to that foot for some reason. But as you can see, in the next ask he does it super nicely. Maybe he was just set up wrong
normally I’m good about making sure he’s set up square, but stuff happens.

We did that again today (Monday) and he was an angel about all four feet! Picked them up super nicely and set them down nicely too. I wish I would have gotten today on video, I was so happy with him! We even had the fan on and he could not care less. (I actually think he liked it lol)
We also introduced round-penning today. At first he was attached at my hip and was like “ok, I can yield my hindquarters” (because I was asking him to move with a flag). Eventually he realized I was asking him to get away and move out. For a first time round-penning, he did pretty good! We worked on walk and trot. He had some opinions about me asking him to trot
he would take off cantering and throwing a couple bucks in there. It was very funny, again, wish I would have videoed it.

And I think he’s in a growth spurt right now
he’s looking a little butt high at the moment.
