From trainer Kaylee Peel:
Well since she’s been here almost a week I suppose it’s time to introduce this years Dakota Showdown horse. Originally Miss Whitney was supposed to spend the summer with me but upon catching her last weekend there was some things that came up in regards to her health that caused both the rescue and myself to step back and consider what would be best for her and we all agreed she’d be better off to stay at the rescue and get the care needed to assess everything going on. Hopefully next year she will be healed up and ready to strut herself with a different trainer!
However, instead of backing out of the Showdown all together, the ladies at the rescue just so happened to have this pretty red head hanging out that could slip right into the Showcase division and never miss a beat. So we welcomed Eliana, a cute little 10 year old sorrel mustang mare to the place last Saturday. She had a few days to settle in and then we got right to work assessing where she is in her training, any holes there may be and any attitude problems that could need adjusted. Eliana has been rode previously but shown some bucking issues due to an ill-fitting saddle. It’s pretty clear she has been decently spoiled in the past and has some pushiness that will need to be worked thru over the summer, but for the most part, Eliana will spend the summer learning the ropes of ranch and cattle work, attending some play days and learning to be a willing partner to who ever gets to take this sweet girl home in August. #dakotashowdown
