We’re excited to introduce the next team in our Foundation Division—meet Sarah Carlson and Alex!
This team includes 3-year-old BLM Mustang gelding Alex, who is a calm and friendly boy, though still very much learning about the domestic world after arriving on April 3. He’s taken everything in stride so far, and we’re excited to watch his personality continue to develop over the next few months. We’ve also noticed that Nina may have a “type,” as Alex is nearly a perfect match to 4-year-old Twister in the Showcase Division (anyone looking for a pair should definitely be watching these two!).
Trainer Sarah Carlson joins us from the Toronto, SD area. Sarah has been involved with horses through 4-H, horse shows, and rodeo for much of her life, and began her training journey after purchasing her first horse. Since then, she has continued to grow her skills through hands-on experience at a local breeding farm. She shares that she plans to continue building her training career through resale projects, and is excited to use this challenge as an opportunity to further establish herself as a reputable trainer.
Over the next four months, Sarah and Alex will be working together as part of the Dakota Showdown Horse Trainer Challenge. With his steady temperament and her growing experience, we’re looking forward to seeing this partnership take shape as Alex gains confidence and learns the skills he’ll need to be ready for his next home. Alex will be available for adoption at the Finale on August 23, 2026 in Lennox, SD.
