Bristol is one of the horses available to trainers in the Foundation Division of the Dakota Showdown Horse Trainer Challenge.
She arrived at Gentle Spirit Horses Rescue from auction alongside her friend Sutton, and while the two mares share a similar background, Bristol’s personality is a little different.
Bristol is the kind of horse who looks for connection. While she’s still completely unhandled, she has shown curiosity about people and has already allowed us to get close and even touch her with a training stick. She tends to look to another horse for confidence, quickly finding a new friend to follow and learn from — which suggests that once she chooses a person to trust, that partnership could become very strong.
The Foundation Division is designed specifically for horses like Bristol. Trainers focus on developing the foundation skills every horse needs to become a good citizen — haltering, handling, trust, and confidence. Riding isn’t the primary goal here, though it can be part of the journey. The real objective is giving horses the skills they need to become adoptable partners.
For horses like Bristol, learning those first foundations can open the door to a completely different future.
She may be looking for someone to lead the way — and that person could be you.
Trainer applications close March 15.
