Meet Forrest - Smart, Brave, and Ready to Learn
Foundation Division – 3-Year-Old BLM Mustang Gelding
Trainer: Nina Ring, Gentle Spirit Horses Rescue

Forrest’s Showdown journey took a little detour. He started with another trainer and made quick progress thanks to his naturally curious and friendly personality. Unfortunately, his trainer’s work schedule changed, so Forrest came back to the rescue just a couple weeks ago. Now, he’s working with Nina to keep building on what he’s already learned.

In just a short time, Forrest has remembered a lot — he leads well, loads in a trailer, stands for grooming, works in a round pen at the walk and trot, accepts a surcingle, and navigates obstacles like tarps, bridges, and the big ball with ease. He’ll give his front feet, backs up, and yields his hindquarters.

Forrest is smart, willing, and brave, but he’s still very anxious and reactive when anything touches his hind legs or approaches from behind. This is his biggest hurdle right now, and it will require consistent, patient groundwork to help him feel safe and confident.

He’s not limited to highly experienced mustang trainers like Thunder or Kelvin, but his ideal adopter will have solid handling skills, the patience to work through his sensitivity, and the commitment to continue his training.
