Meet KC, an 8 year old Miniature horse gelding and his young trainer, Jordan Heeney. #ShowdownTeamkc is competing in the Pony Division of the 2023 Dakota Showdown Horse Trainer Challenge
KC entered the Dakota Showdown with a timid and reactive nature, making him a challenging pony. However, Jordan saw the potential in him and decided to take on the task of helping him. Through her dedication and hard work, KC has made remarkable progress. He now has a strong foundation in ground work, trims, and ties. He has even embarked on several overnight camping trips and enjoys tackling obstacles. Additionally, he has been introduced to both a saddle and driving double. This stunning pony is now prepared to find a forever home where he can continue to thrive and embark on exciting adventures.
Although KC is excelling in ground driving and is ready to hitch, Jordan is proceeding with caution due to his past experiences with harness wrecks. Therefore, she is looking for someone who will appreciate KC's enthusiastic personality and give him the attention he deserves. KC is best suited for individuals with quiet and calm personalities, as he may not thrive in a family environment with loud and active children. However, he is sure to form strong bonds with people who possess a calmer demeanor.
About Jordan Heeney
Jordan is the youngest competitor in the 2023 Dakota Showdown - but is just as persistent, brave and horse crazy as the rest of the trainers. She brings a calm maturity well above her age, a deep love of horses, and a work ethic far beyond her years. She choose a challenge in KC - wanting to help him learn to trust and enjoy humans. Her natural talent combined with the mentoring she's receiving at Little Hooves has helped her make a huge impact and difference in KC's life and given him a second chance at a good future!
About KC's Ideal Adopter
KC is looking for a home with a calm, patient, quiet person who will continue to build his confidence and build on the foundation Jordan has built. He likely won't enjoy a home with super active and loud children but a calm family environment could work well for him.
KC's History
KC came to Little Hooves Mini Horse Rescue after being left behind by his owners at a boarding stable. He came from a salebarn horse dealer with an unknown past. The boarding barn reached out to Little Hooves to give him a chance at a new life. KC responds well to quiet handling. He can be a very reactive pony.
Adopt KC at the Dakota Showdown Finale
The Dakota Showdown horses will be available for adoption under the Gentle Spirit Horses Rescue contract (or Little Hooves Miniature Horse Rescue contract for ponies KC, Diamond Dave, Belle and Tinkerbelle) to approved adopters through an online bidding process on August 12-13, 2023. The starting bid is $1200. Appointments to meet the horses you are interested in on August 12 are greatly encouraged.
